LAPLACE, La (BRPROUD) – St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested three men on Monday after they led officers on a brief chase.

Officers responded to a shoplifting complaint from a business on the 1300 block of West Airline Highway, but when they arrived at the store the suspects were gone. After officers were given descriptions of the suspects and the vehicle, they were able to locate the vehicle on Belle Terre Boulevard.

Officers tried to stop the vehicle but IT sped westbound towards the I-10 ramp and a chase began. The vehicle crashed into a marsh and the suspects were identified as 40-year-old Dwayne Williams, 40-year-old Quentin Brown and the driver was 45-year-old Calvin Waters.

Through an investigation, officers learned that Waters was a convicted felon and threw a gun with an extended magazine clip into the water near the site of the crash. SJSO dive team was able to recover the gun in the water. Evidence related to the shoplifting incident was found in the vehicle along with cocaine in Water’s sock.

Waters was charged with reckless operation of a vehicle, accessory to theft, flight from officers by vehicle, illegal carrying of a weapon by convicted felon possession of a firearm, and possession with intent to distribute. He is being held with a $21,750 bond.

Brown was booked with accessory to theft and is being held with a $1,000 bond. Williams was booked with theft and is being held with a $500 bond.
