Funeral services for Jonathan Panks were held Friday.

Panks was killed in a car crash in Mississippi.

He was called a “go getter” and worked corrections, criminal patrol, the marine division and SWAT.

“Back when Jonathan was a very young deputy, we saw a lot of potential in him. We loved him,” said Mike Ferrell, with the St. Tammany Sheriff’s Office. “Back then, even, I wish I had 10 of him. He was just such a great guy.”

Panks had been promoted to corporal with the St. Tammany Sheriff’s Office and was a 13-year veteran.

He was set to get married in November.
