State Police reveal investigation details on deadly shooting involving EBRSO deputy

BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) – Louisiana State Police investigated a fatal shooting involving an East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy who killed an alleged kidnapping suspect on Saturday.

Troopers learned that EBRSO deputies and Baton Rouge Police Department officers were at Spring Brook Apartments on George O’Neal Road on Saturday, Jan. 9 around 3:30 p.m. Deputies were attempting to find an alleged kidnapping suspect. LSP says that while at the apartment complex, EBRSO made contact with 25-year-old Deaughn Willis.

According to officials, Willis ‘brandished’ a firearm at law enforcement then a deputy discharged his firearm striking Willis.

Willis suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene.

“As the investigation progresses, LSP Detectives will continue to review all evidence and aspects of the incident to ensure a complete and thorough investigation,” LSP says. “Upon completion, all investigative findings will be delivered to the East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney’s Office.”
