A random search led to discovery of a loaded gun at Broadmoor High School Thursday morning.

According to an affidavit, 18-year-old Anthony Jelks, Jr. was arrested for bringing a small silver .25 caliber handgun onto the school’s campus.

We’re told administrators located the weapon in Jelks’ front right coat pocket and safely secured it without incident.

When asked if he wanted make a statement before being handcuffed, Jelks stated that he had the gun on him for protection because his brother was shot last weekend and he was afraid that something was going to happen to him.

Jelks also revealed that he found the gun in a grassy area between Washington Ave. and Bahm St. last Wednesday.

He picked up the gun and has been carrying it to school since Monday.

As a result, Jelks has been booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on the following charge:
