BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Summer of Hope events continue this weekend with discussions with teens, a weekly series bringing resources to communities, and a community bike ride in Baton Rouge.
Here is a list of this weekend’s Summer of Hope events:
Love is Kind
About: Love is Kind is a discussion about teen dating as well as some of the challenges youth face. Attendees will discuss how to improve relationships and self-love. There will be free food and music, with appearances by Max 94.1.
Who: Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome’s Women’s Advancement Commission and the Butterfly Society
When: Saturday, Aug. 13, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Heal the Block
About: Heal the Block is a weekly summer series aiming to bring resources directly to communities impacted by violence.
Who: Baton Rouge Community Street Team, Summer of Hope
When: Saturday, Aug. 13, 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Where: Lillie’s Kitchen (5735 Silverleaf Ave)
Community Bike Ride and Yoga
About: Community Bike Ride and Yoga is a call to all community members to grab their bikes and helmets and join for a ride through Mid City.
Who: The Safety Place, Yoga Noir, East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office
When: Saturday, Aug. 13, 10 a.m.
Where: Youth City Lab (4385 Government St)
Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome introduced the Summer of Hope initiative in June. The boots on the ground initiative aim to reduce violence in the community through a series of events.
