BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD)– With the easing of COVID-19 restrictions in most places, people are ready to get out and travel.
Baton Rouge Metro Airport Marketing Public Relations and Air Service Development Manager Jim Caldwell says, “Based on the TSA checkpoint count. It should be our best month since the pandemic.
Experts say a lot more people are planning to go out on vacation this summer, which is a stark contrast from last year around this time.
Locals Ernest Butler, Rebecca Nazaril and Ryan Woods all said they have plans for this Summer.
Most said they can’t wait after a stressful year with the pandemic.
“It’s nice to feel a little bit more free,” said Woods.
Nazaril says, “It feels so good to go back to normalcy after everything.”
Many people planned ahead and are prepared for take off.
Lending Tree Chief Credit Analyst Matt Schulz said, “There’s nothing more normal than a summer, family vacation.”
Caldwell explained, “The flight schedules are back up. Depending on the month, approximately 80 percent of the pre-pandemic schedule. So we got high flight frequencies, hubs that are served out of here by American, Delta and United.”
More travel is good for the economy.
“More people have jobs. we are seeing more spending. we see people feeling a little more confident about themselves financially,” said Schultz.
Caldwell says, “It’s one of the top economic pillars in the community.”
The airport says international flights could be limited depending on the country but most flights are back on schedule.
If you are planning to fly TSA said mask wearing is still required in airports and during flight. The mandate is in effect until at least mid-September.
