BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) – Southern University in New Orleans plans on opening back up on Tuesday, Sep. 7 after closing due to Hurricane Ida.

“Although the impact of this Category 4 Hurricane on our lives will linger in our minds for a while, our commitment to provide a quality educational experience for our students remains as strong as ever,” an official press release said.

Students were encouraged to evacuate, but those that stayed in the residence halls were transported to Sothern’s main campus in Baton Rouge.

There are damages from the hurricane, but a safe return is expected.

SUNO asks that the community check out all social media platforms, campus emails and the hurricane preparedness website for more information.
