BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A man accused of sexually assaulting a victim in the Perkins Rowe parking garage faces kidnapping and sexual battery charges.
The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect as Leon Curry III, 69. He was booked into EBR Parish Prison on Monday on charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, aggravated kidnapping and sexual battery. His bond has been set to $900,000.
Deputies responded to reported shots fired at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the Perkins Rowe parking garage. No injuries were reported, however, the suspect left the scene.
EBRSO says detective investigation found that the victim went to her vehicle in the parking garage when Curry allegedly approached her with a gun, forced her into the vehicle and drove to another level of the parking garage before allegedly sexually assaulting the victim. The sheriff’s office says Curry returned to the original level before the victim’s boyfriend attempted to get inside the vehicle. Authorities said Curry then sped out of the garage with the victim inside the vehicle.
The victim’s boyfriend followed in his vehicle and the victim jumped out of the vehicle before it turned onto Perkins Road, according to EBRSO. Authorities said the boyfriend fired shots at the suspect when Curry allegedly brandished a gun.
The sheriff’s office says the victim’s vehicle was later found parked in the parking garage and detectives identified Curry using his vehicle’s license plate.
During questioning with detectives, Curry allegedly admitted to being in the area at the time of the incident and told authorities he likes to watch women in the area. EBRSO says a search of Curry’s vehicle found “numerous hats, masks and a BB-gun in the style of a semi-automatic handgun.”
