The man arrested Sunday in connection with a fatal shooting that left 2 Southern University students dead has been re-arrested, on accusations of trying to flee the jurisdiction yesterday. Earnest Felton was released from EBR parish prison after posting $90,000 bond, and the conditions of his bond specified that he could not leave the jurisdiction. If Judge Beau Higginbotham finds that he did in fact try to leave, he would be held in contempt of court for violating bond condition.

Felton was charged Sunday with Attempted Second Degree Murder after allegedly getting into a shootout with Brandon Henderson, who was hospitalized with non-life-threatning injuries.

Authorities and witnesses say the two young women who died in the shooting, Annette January and Lashuntae Benton, were innocent bystanders who got caught in the crossfire. Forensics experts are testing the bullets recovered from the victims’ bodies to determine whether they were fired from Henderson’s gun, or Felton’s. At this time, no charges have been filed in their deaths.
