ROUGON, La. (BRPROUD) — A teacher at a Pointe Coupee Parish elementary school found a weapon in a student’s backpack Tuesday.

The school said there was no “immediate danger” to the student or teacher and parents were notified via email and robocall. Rougon Elementary School issued the following statement:

“Earlier this morning a weapon was discovered in a child’s bookbag by the student’s teacher. The student was unaware the weapon was in the bookbag. School officials and law enforcement worked quickly and professionally to secure the safety of students and teachers on campus. At no time was any student or teacher in immediate danger. School policy and procedures were followed, and instruction was never interrupted. A robo call and email has been sent out to all parents.”
