MONTEGUT, La. (AP) — Two Louisiana women were shot to death in a home in Montegut, the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office said.
Sheriff Tim Soignet identified the victims as 37-year-old Hope Nettleton and 34-year-old Brittany Cormier, both of Montegut, The Courier reported.
“They were both neighbors,” he said. “One of them was over at the house where the incident occurred. They were there at the same time. We’re still trying to work out all the details.”
Deputies, detectives and crime scene investigators responded around 10:20 p.m. Wednesday to investigate a call of shots fired, the Sheriff’s Office said.
They found the two women suffering from gunshot wounds. They were both pronounced dead shortly later.
Detectives are currently interviewing witnesses and checking nearby security videos in an effort to find a suspect, the sheriff said.
“We’re picking up descriptions of vehicles and are looking at a lot of surveillance cameras in the area to try to pick up as much information as we can,” Soignet said. “I have a lot of guys out there who are working hard on this since last night. It’s a very active investigation.”
So far, no arrests have been made.
