The Baton Rouge housing market is booming according to real estate agents

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) ––– If you’re thinking of buying or selling your home in East Baton Rouge, real estate agents say now is a perfect time.

Realator Suzie Gautreaux says, “we have lots of buyers, the market’s booming, we have historically low-interest rates.”

Gautreaux says buyers are motivated and that “people are feeling more of an urgency. I think since COVID, to go ahead while interest rates are low.”

Although buyers are eager, Kevin Jones says there are a limited number of homes available. “The buyers are ready to buy right now, and the sellers aren’t necessarily ready to put their homes back on the market, so we have super low inventory,” Jones says.

That means homes on the market often have multiple bids, and while buyers are fighting to out-bid, sellers are benefitting.

“Sellers are winning right now. If you’re looking to sell your home, I mean, they’re going like real fast, within hours,” Jones says.

He says the reason people may be cautious about putting their home on the market is because of the ongoing pandemic, “people are still leery about COVID. They don’t want people in and out of their homes.”

But homeowners are taking safety precautions, and Jones says the market will eventually level out, so they should act fast.

“People are offering above asking. And right now, if you’re looking to sell, I would say, get your house in the market ASAP,” Jones says.

But there are a few ways buyers can increase their chances. Jones says to listen to your agent, “we basically have an idea of a pulse of the market and the area.”

Gautreaux says getting pre-approved could help you get to the top of the list quicker.
