It’s an extremely dangerous thing to do and chances are that you have done it before.
It’s called “Rubbernecking”.
While driving, people slow down and look over to view anything from construction to a car accident.
According to the National Department of Transportation, 98% of reported accidents involve a single distracted driver.
Rubbernecking was the highest percentage of single distractions drivers face.
Some say that they see people rubber-necking all the time
Astin Lira is visiting Baton Rouge from Houston, Texas. She said that she witnessed three wrecks last week while passing a traffic stop because people Rubbernecking.
She said, “Especially the bad ones where you see five or six different police cars. If it looks more serious, then you’re more inclined to want to know what’s going on”.
Rubbernecking isn’t the only thing distracting drivers.
Right behind it are using a cell phone, passenger distraction and playing with the radio.
We all need to fight the temptation to look, so we don’t put others in danger.
