BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — EBR Schools made the decision to transition three schools to virtual learning after reports of positive COVID-19 cases.

Those schools include Belaire High School, McKinely Senior High School and Buchanan Elementary School.

The school system said remote learning will begin Friday, Jan. 7 and students will return to in-person learning on Jan. 12.

“The health and safety of our staff and students always come first, and we do not make these decisions lightly. Our thoughts are with those impacted, and we encourage all staff and students to do their part in mitigating the spread of COVID-19,” stated School Superintendent Sito Narcisse, Ed. D.

EBR Schools officials said classrooms will be receiving deep cleanings. Additionally, mitigation efforts such as mask-wearing, sanitizing, frequent handwashing, testing and improved air-filtration systems will continue.
