Three suspects facing looting charges after arrests outside local car dealership during state of emergency

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Joseph Gabel, James Levi and Tiffany Smith are all behind bars in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.

All three suspects in this case are considered homeless.

Around 10 a.m., On August 30, officers were called to the Circle K located at 9110 Airline Hwy.

Officers were told that a burglary was in progress during a state of emergency.

That state of emergency was in place due to Hurricane Ida.

Upon arrival, officers saw all three suspects pictured below in the parking lot of All Star Toyota at 9150 Airline Hwy.

Officers observed Joseph Gabel find a broken window and take cigarettes from inside the Circle K.

The affidavit states that Gabel put the cigarettes in his pant pocket. The suspect was apprehended soon after and charged with Looting.

James Levi was seen walking through the parking lot of the All Star Toyota with a bag of cigarettes and cigars.

Levi admitted to taking the cigarettes and cigars from the Circle K.

The homeless man was booked into EBR Parish Prison and is facing one count of Looting.

Tiffany Smith was observed in the parking lot of the All Star Toyota as well with a bag of cigarettes and cigars.

Smith claims that she only took the items off the ground and not from inside the Circle K.

Despite this claim, the homeless woman was arrested and charged with Looting.
