BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Residents are welcomed to a Thursday evening public open house on a project proposing widening a portion of Nicholson Drive.
The project, which is currently in its design phase, would widen Nicholson Drive between Brightside Lane and Gourrier Avenue from two lanes to four lanes, according to MOVEBR. This construction would be the first segment of the project on Nicholson Drive.
Other elements of the project outlined by MOVEBR include no left turns allowed on to Nicholson Drive from East Boyd Drive, roadway lighting, bike lanes, a 10-foot shared use path, and drainage improvements.
City-Parish officials said this project is estimated to cost $15 million and is scheduled to begin construction in 2024.
MOVEBR said segment two of the Nicholson Drive project proposes road widening from Ben Hur Road to Bluebonnet Boulevard and segment three would widen Nicholson Drive from the parish line to Gardere Lane.
The public open house on segment one will be on Thursday, Aug. 25 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Thrive Academy Gymnasium. For more information about the meeting, learn more about the proposed project or submit a comment online, click here.
