BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The LSU Tigers and Southern University Jaguars celebrated huge football game wins over their Homecoming weekends.

The LSU Tigers broke the Ole Miss winning streak defeating the Rebels 45 – 20.

Across town, the Southern University Jaguars defeated the University of Virginia Lynchburg Dragons 51 – 7.

Homecoming weekend is inspired by traditions, and of course, tailgating.

“We look forward to coming every year to tailgate,” Southern fan Kathy Blackman said.

While tailgating, Blackman and her family enjoyed grilling and cooking food items.

“We are cooking jambalaya, fried chicken, fried fish, and hushpuppies,” Blackman said.

“Homecoming weekend you can back and you say I had a joyous time with my university, and I want to come back and have another joyous time,” Southern alum Edward Pratt said.

Meanwhile, in Death Valley, fans aren’t playing around when it comes to elaborate tailgating. LSU alum Jeannie Darling has her own “tailgating tree”.

“So that’s our tailgating tree, and it has a plaque with my name on it,” Darling said.

Jeannie Darling is known as the “Queen” with her very own crown and sash during the Homecoming tailgates.

“It’s our favorite tradition and mostly just supporting the tiger, and for homecoming, it’s like once a tiger, always a Tiger,” Darling said.
