Traffic stop leads to double arrest in Assumption Parish

PAINCOURTVILLE, La (BRPROUD)- The Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on Saturday afternoon on LA 70.

The Deputy pulled over 28-year-old Chelsea Elizabeth Jean Canady and 21-year-old Jude Paul Coupel for a traffic violation. The driver, identified as Canady, spoke with the officer and was later determined a further investigation was needed.

The deputy made contact with Coupel and noticed behavior consistent with illegal drug activity. After questioning, a consent to search the vehicle was requested.

During the search, deputies seized multiple controlled dangerous substances.

Canady and Coupel was arrested and booked in to the parish detention facility.

Chelsea Canady was charged with:

  • Possession of Meth-Amphetamine
  • Possession of Adderall
  • Possession of Marijuana
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Speeding 75/55 MPH

Jude Coupel was booked on counts of:

  • Possession of Meth-Amphetamine
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Possession of Marijuana

Canady bond is set at $35,000 and she remains incarcerated.

Coupel remains incarcerated with a bond set at $40,000.
