BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) – St. George Fire Department responded to a duplex with heavy fire on Christmas morning.

Firefighters responded to the 8000 block of Skysail Avenue at 2:12 a.m. and found four residents who had escaped the duplex fire, but two residents were seriously burned. A child and an adult were treated and transported to Baton Rouge General by emergency services. St. George Fire Department says that two uninjured children went to a neighbor’s house and are now with family members.

Six members of a family living in the neighboring duplex also escaped unharmed. Although the fire was primarily on one side, both residences were deemed unlivable by the fire department.

St. George Fire investigators were called to the scene. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time. Red Cross was contacted to assist the two families. The total number of victims is four adults and six children.
