UPDATE: Two suspects arrested after supermarket shooting in Port Allen

PORT ALLEN, La. (BRPROUD) – The Port Allen Police Department arrested two suspects in connection to the supermarket shooting, and one additional suspect has yet to be arrested.

Detective investigation found that an argument broke out between one of the suspects and both victims. All individuals walked outside of the supermarket while continuing to argue where another individual joined the argument.

In the parking lot, one suspect fire shots and one victim also fired shots in self-defense, according to PAPD investigators.

Two females were wounded and taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, PAPD said.

Yolanda Gaines was arrested and faces two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm. She was booked into the West Baton Rouge Parish Detention Center.

Kimberly Williams was arrested and faces one count of obstruction of justice. She was also booked into the West Baton Rouge Parish Detention Center.

Police Chief Hicks said no injuries were made to the store employees or staff.

This shooting remains under investigation.


PORT ALLEN, La (BRPROUD) – The Port Allen Police Department responded to a shooting at Hubben’s Supermarket in Port Allen, La. on Sunday, Aug. 15.

The shooting took place at approximately 4:30 p.m.

Two females were shot but have non-threatening injuries. The male suspect is in custody.

The suspect is in his early thirties.

The Port Allen Police Department is still seeking a motive.

West Baton Rouge Sherriff’s Office Major Zachary Simmons says that WBRSO assisted at the scene, but Port Allen is handling the case.

PAPD said that Police Chief Corey Hicks will give an official announcement tomorrow morning.

The suspect could possibly be charged with Attempted Murder.
