GRAMERCY, La. (BRPROUD) – Two men were killed on Wednesday night in a multi-vehicle crash on I-10 East.

The deadly accident took place around 6 p.m. and it took the lives of David Curtis, 45, of New Orleans and Herbert Fernandez, 55, of Springfield.

According to the Louisiana State Police “the crash occurred as Curtis was traveling westbound on Interstate 10 in a 2004 Nissan Armada.”

A 2019 Freightliner Cascade driven by Herbert Fernandez was on I-10 heading eastbound at the same time.

At some point, the vehicle driven by David Curtis exited I-10 and crossed the median.

LSP says, “after crossing the median, the Nissan entered the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 and struck the Freightliner.”

Curtis was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The 45-year-old “was ejected from the vehicle” and died at the crash scene.

Despite wearing a seat belt, Herbert Fernandez also died at the scene.

Investigators are awaiting toxicology results for Curtis and Fernandez.
