Unidentified driver killed in Tangipahoa Parish crash

TANGIPAHOA PARISH, La. (FOX 44) (NBC LOCAL 33) – Louisiana State Police are investigating a deadly crash on Interstate 55, north of Manchac early Sunday morning.

Troopers say a 2008 Nissan Maxima was heading northbound on I-55, and for unknown reasons, the car stopped in the left lane. Then, the car was struck by a 2017 Hyundai Sonata. The driver of the Nissan was not wearing a seat belt and died from his injuries.

The identity of the driver of the Nissan has not been released pending notification of next of kin, according to a news release.

We are told the driver and passenger in the Hyundai sustained moderate injuries and were taken to a local hospital.

This is an ongoing investigation.
