AMITE, La. (BRPROUD) — An unidentified man was killed in a two-vehicle crash on I-55 in Tangipahoa Parish.

The crash took place Tuesday morning after 5:30 a.m. on I-55 south of Hwy 16. Louisiana State Police (LSP) investigation found that a 2008 Toyota Scion hit the back of a 2007 Peterbilt Car Hauler while traveling northbound on I-55. LSP said the impact pushed the Toyota off the road before hitting a tree.

The driver in the Toyota was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and died as a result of his injuries, according to LSP. The driver of the Peterbilt provided a voluntary breath sample that showed no alcohol detected.

The crash remains under investigation by LSP.
