Vacant home is a ‘total loss’ after arson fire on East Washington St.

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – The Baton Rouge Fire Department responded to an early morning fire at 601 East Washington St.

Firefighters arrived within five minutes of the call and found “fire coming out of the roof of the vacant structure.”

It took firefighters a little over 10 minutes to put the fire out with the help of seven total units, four pumpers and one ladder.

Damage from the fire was limited to the vacant home.

The vacant home sustained $65,000 in damages and is considered a ‘total loss.’

Fire investigators determined that the cause of the fire is arson.

BRPD and EMS assisted the Baton Rouge Fire Department at the scene.
