ST. GABRIEL, La. (BRPROUD) – East Iberville residents had the chance to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, but during a time convenient for people who work during the day.
200 doses of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine was distributed at Mount Carmel Baptist Church.
The event required for people to pre-register but did not turn away any residents who did not register.
“I was just on the next-door app and saw they were doing vaccines and I figured why not hop on over,” said Cammie Cruz.
The one-shot process took a few minutes, quickly getting people in and out the door.
“We have a clinic that’s doing some vaccinations already and they’ve been giving Moderna and so we wanted to try and assist them to be able to get more people vaccinated in a faster amount of time” said St. Gabriel City Councilman, Ronald Grace.
People say, they’re happy a vaccination drive is taking place in the St. Gabriel community and more importantly, it’s happening in the middle of the day when they can easily make their appointments.
“It’s nice just have that variety and having those options. I think that is great,” said Nate Gordon.
People who work say the timeframe makes all the difference.
“It works really well for anybody that can’t make it to the early ones and so it was super convenient, and they give you a big range of time,” said Cruz.
People who work say getting to those early morning sites has been a hassle and having an afternoon event works best because being able to get the shot is what matters most.
“It’s like a huge weight off my shoulders,” said Gordon.
“It’s a sense of relief to have this vaccine done,” said Cruz.
