BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) – Two men were arrested in connection to a shooting that led to a police chase and ended in a crash.
BRPD says, the men were involved in shooting near the intersection of Prescott and North Foster.
According to police, the men pulled alongside another vehicle and the passenger started shooting before driving away.
The crosstown chase ended downtown when the men crashed into the Visit Baton Rouge building.
Surveillance video from a nearby business shows one of the suspects got out of the car and ran away.
The scene played out in front of many people who were downtown, some running when the car made a speedy turn before the crash.
“It was clearly a very big accident, very loud, very big accident. I saw the guy black male with dreadlocks running down the street and I was like oh my gosh” said John Delgado.
He said, “I heard sirens and almost immediately knew at that point the police didn’t just arrive on the scene they must have come with the car accident.”
Before coming to a stop, the car hit a utility box, knocking out power and taking down a light pole.
“As a single person living right down the road and coming down here to run in the evenings it makes you feel like you might not want to do it” said Angela Guidry.
People say, they see crashes downtown all the time, but nothing of this magnitude.
“This wasn’t just like a fender bender. What was surprising to me was both how loud the accident was and the immediacy of having the sirens right behind it. Assault rifles running down the street chasing these guys so it was pretty serious” said Delgado.
