St Amant, La. (BRPROUD) – The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office was called to St. Amant High School on Thursday.

APSO took part in a search of a student’s vehicle.

That search uncovered among other things, a weapon.

Principal Beth Templet, of St. Amant High School sent this letter to parents with details about the incident.

Dear Gator Families,

I want to share with you information about an incident that took place on campus today that was quickly addressed.

A discipline investigation led to a search of a student’s vehicle on campus. During that search, which involved the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, illegal contraband, including a weapon, was found. This matter is now under investigation by law enforcement.

As with all matters of student safety, we took this incident very seriously and worked with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s officers on campus to address the circumstances. It was determined that there was no threat to our campus and we were able to quickly bring closure to the matter.

Only by working as a school community can we maintain the level of safety that we want for our students and that they certainly deserve at St. Amant High School.

Sincerely,

Beth
Templet

Principal
