West Baton Rouge Parish students get a soft start to the school year

Local News

BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) — Some West Baton Rouge Parish students are heading back to the classroom today, as the school system has two soft-start days.

Those two days are August 9 and 10, with all students returning on August 11. West Baton Rouge Schools reached out to parents ahead of the school year to let them know which day their students would return to the classroom.

COVID-19 precautions are still in place this year, and per the mask mandate by Governor John Bel Edwards, masks will be required inside all school buildings.

In a letter to parents, the school board said, “We were all looking forward to a mask-free school opening, but that is not possible at this time.” Social distancing, handwashing, and the sanitizing of buildings will still be required.

Staff and Students are asked to stay home if sick, and if they test positive, they will need to quarantine for a 10-day period.
