WEST FELICIANA PARISH, La. (BRPROUD) – The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is asking for the public’s help in solving a case involving a Louisiana black bear that was shot and killed.

LDWF said there is a $6,000 reward available for specific information that leads to an arrest and conviction.

The bear was found on Saturday, Oct. 7 off Solitude Road in West Feliciana Parish. According to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, “a necropsy was performed and it was determined that the bear perished because of a gunshot wound from a rifle.”

If someone is found to be responsible for killing the bear, LDWF said they may owe $10,000 for the replacement value of the illegally taken bear. They would also face up to 120 days in jail and a fine between $900 and $950.
