More than 40 Winn Dixie grocery stores are raising money to support Ochsner Children’s hospital over the next week by donating a portion of their King Cake sales and all of the donations given at the register toward supporting young patients and the hospitals programs.
Some of the funding will go to the Michael R. Boh center for child development, which offers personalized, family oriented care for kids with a wide range of physical, cognitive and behavioral disabilities.
The WinnDixie located in Central has exceeded expectations and achieved nationally in past Winn Dixie fundraisers. Store manager Megan Willis said, “Winn Dixie has been here for 60 years supporting the local Louisiana community along the gulf coast. What more can we say, we are here to back Louisiana. We want to help any way we can.”
Willis said they are making extra king cakes, confident they will have extra buyers wanting to support this cause.
The fundraising goes from Wednesday until next Tuesday February 13th which is Fat Tuesday.
