BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – As the manslaughter trial continues for Albert Franklin Jr. and officials are finding out more about the incident that occurred back in 2018.

On Thursday, Oct. 6, prosecutors said Franklin ran over Zachary police officer and firefighter Chris Lawton four years ago.

The defense claims when Lawton tried to serve Franklin with an arrest warrant, he wasn’t carrying his police badge, wearing plain clothes, and possibly didn’t identify himself.

“It was another good day. The witnesses came in and testified and the information as it keeps coming out more and more, I think it’s helping the jury really understand what was happening” said defense attorney Stavros Panagoulopoulos.

If convicted of manslaughter, Franklin could face up to forty years behind bars.
