BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A woman faces a murder charge after allegedly shooting her boyfriend during a fight.
On Oct. 25, East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a shooting at 12:45 a.m. in the 8900 block of Metairie Drive.
The victim, 30-year-old Dario G. Stanely, was taken to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries, according to EBRSO spokesperson Casey Hicks. Stanely was found lying on the floor near the doorway with a gunshot to the torso, according to an affidavit.
The woman accused, Ebonie Hartwell, 29, told authorities she had shot the victim, according to EBRSO.
Arrest documents said investigators interviewed Hartwell where she tells authorities she was uncomfortable when the victim became “verbally aggressive” with her while they were out at a nightclub together and as she drove her vehicle back to her home on Metairie Drive, he raised his voice at her.
Upon arrival at her home, he got out of the vehicle and she went inside, according to the affidavit. She told investigators that he arrived a little later to get his car keys from inside her vehicle. She opened the door and he became “aggressive” and brushed up against her. Hartwell told investigators that she choked and strangled Stanely in an attempt to get him to leave before using a gun to intentionally shoot him near the door’s threshold.
Hartwell was taken into custody and faces a second-degree murder charge.
