As temperatures heat up many are cooling down with a cardio pool workout.
Aqua Fit is a group fitness class offered at the YMCA.
“Aqua fitness is just like land exercises, but we do them in the water. You get some same benefits as far as cardio vascular and strength, but it takes some pressure off your joints,” said Personal Trainer Meredith Atterbery.
Atterbey said pool workouts are great because they are low impact.
“You are in the water so you are a little more buoyant, so you don’t have the impact on the joints. You still get the cardio vascular benefits of the jumps or rocking from side to side on your feet. But since you’re buoyant it takes some pressure off your joints.”
The pool is heated so the class meets year round.
Aqua Fit is offered 5 days a week at 8:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.
