BATON ROUGE, LA (BR-PROUD) – If you’re looking to for a low impact workout that will leave you feeling the burn, Barre is a great option.
“Barre is a work out that is a combination of ballet, yoga, Pilates and cardio.”
YMCA Barre Instructor Lexi Falcon said Barre is great for people recovering from injures.
“This particular exercise is low impact. If you have any injuries that bother you whenever you’re doing high impact workouts, this is a work out for you.”
Falcon said it’s also great for people of all ages.
“I’ve had men and women in my classes. I think most people think it’s just for women but men can get a lot out of this work out too, and I’ve had people from every age group in my class so anyone can come.”
Falcon said Barre helps you get lean and tone muscles.
“You will see some muscle but it will be lean muscle. So you’ll be nice and tone. The best part about it is that you don’t think that you’re going to get what you get out of it. So you come in and do the workout as hard as you can and then the next day you really feel it.”
The best part is you can do this workout at home with or without equipment.
“You can do it at home with no equipment. If you have a mat, you can do it on your mat anywhere and even if you don’t have a mat you can do it on the carpet. I recommend at least having a towel underneath your arms. Here we like to use the inflatable balls or chairs,” said Falcon.
