BATON ROUGE, LA (BRPROUD) – After a year of online learning, it’s important now more than ever to get your kids outside and active. In this weeks workout Wednesday Carly Laing shares tips on how to get the entire family moving.
The COVID-19 pandemic has forced many kids to stay inside and online, cutting out a lot of their usual activity.
“A lot of PE classes have been removed this year due to COVID-19. Kids are sitting now more than ever so it’s really important to get them up and get them active and get them moving.”
YMCA Marketing Director Kristen Hogan said to be intentional and make time for activity.
“It’s important to incorporate some activity. Encourage, as a parent, for your child to get active and do those active things with them. Anything to get moving and get healthy together as a family.”
Hogan said be sure to get up and get active with the kids.
“It all starts with the parent. A lot of parents want to sit at home and they’re on their phone or checking work emails, but it’s real important to set a good example for your younger children. Be the one to encourage and suggest an activity that you can all do together such as walk around the neighborhood, take a bike ride, go outside and do something fun together. Get some fresh air, get some exercise and encourage a healthy lifestyle.”

“Lots of times parents want to do something fun with their children but they hit this mental roadblock where they can’t think of something really creative and that’s OK. You can Google some activities at YMCAbr.org. We have a lot of activities that you can do together with your family. Sign your kids up for organize sports. Get them into sports where they can meet new people and make new friendships and be healthy at the same time.”
