BATON ROUGE, LA (BR-PROUD) – If you’re looking to improve your health in the kitchen, the YMCA is now offering a nutrition based class.
We’ve all heard the saying “abs are made in the kitchen” but do you really know what that means, or how to apply it?
If not, the YMCA is launching a new class called Nutritional Boot camp.
“That is the goal of this workshop. How do you make it work for you. It really steps you through, what do I need to know, how do I get this done and how does it fit me. So, for the family of one or the family of six, how do you do that,” said YMCA Executive Director Julie Russell.
This course teaches all the basics of healthy eating and more importantly how to apply that to our fast paced lifestyle.
“We all live in a fast-paced world right now and so it’s like how do we get that done. How do we have a good nutritious meal that’s exciting but easy and something that you can share with your family also. And that engages everyone in this so it’s good health across the board,” Russell said.
The class meets once a week for six weeks and is taught by a registered dietitian. During the course you will cover the fundamentals of healthy eating, participate in cooking demonstrations and end with a grocery store tour.
“It really shows you what to aim for in the grocery store and you can ask those questions. The beauty is they can offer you alternatives right there so again you are hands on learning and loading your basket with healthy choices.”
It’s a great tool to connect both physical and nutritional health.
