BATON ROUGE, LA (BRPROUD) – If you’re starting a new fitness routine but not sure how to begin, the YMCA has a great program for you.
The YMCA is taking you back to the basics of weight lifting with a program called Y Lift.
“Y Lift is the fundamentals of lifting weights.”
It’s is a three week small group training session.
“It is for the person that needs that fundamental discussion.”
YMCA Director of Healthy Lifestyles Julie Russell said this program is great for those looking to learn fundamentals of equipment, movement and program planning.
“A lot of it has to do with a comfort level. There are some members or people who have never actually stepped foot on the weight floor, or they won’t go to a body sculpting or boot camp style class because they are hesitant, resistant or scared. They just don’t know what they’re getting into. Once you know, now you know.”
The program also includes a one-on-one 30 minute session with a registered dietitian.
“We just recognize that you have to row that boat off of both sides. You can’t just workout and you can’t just manage your diet. It’s really how all that works together,” Russell said.
Russell said it’s a great tool to help build a solid foundation for a healthy lifestyle.
“It was just what they needed to sharpen things up. To really understand why they’re lifting weights and good movement and good health. For others they recognized hey, I really do need to continue this training. So then they will go on to work with a personal trainer one-on-one.”
