Zachary Police arrest 2 juveniles in connection to vehicle burglary

ZACHARY, La. (BRPROUD) — Two juveniles were arrested by Zachary Police in connection to a vehicle burglary.

According to the Zachary Police Department (ZPD), officers responded to a reported vehicle burglary near Reserve Oak Avenue after 4 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 28. Officers stopped a light-colored sedan speeding eastward on Redwood Lake Blvd.

ZPD said the driver was identified by officers as a juvenile and found that the juvenile passenger wearing an ankle monitor was currently on probation from juvenile court.

Officers found a handgun that was reportedly stolen and marijuana during a search of the vehicle, according to ZPD.

The juvenile driver faces charges of simple burglary, illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile, possession with the intent to distribute Schedule I, and unlicensed driving.

The juvenile passenger faces charges of illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile and possession with intent to distribute Schedule I.

ZPD said more charges are to be expected and urge residents to practice vehicle safety by locking their vehicles, taking their keys and hiding belongings.
