Zachary teacher arrested for allegedly having sex with teen

Local News

Northwestern middle school teacher Ellarea Silva is behind bars. Authorities say the 34-year-old is accused of having sex with a 15-year-old student.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office says Silva and the student were in a relationship over the summer.

According to an arrest warrant, Silva sent nude photos and videos to the victim. It indicates they had sex several times and that she picked him up from his home without his parents consent. Reports say Silvas also gave him an e-cigarette with THC.

Zachary council member Lael Montgomery has been very vocal about this case, he says if these allegations are true its disturbing.

“I would never want my child or any child to go through this,” Montgomery said.

As a father, he says it’s scary to think something like this could happen.

“It’s disgusting,” Montgomery said. “You trust your child is going to be protected in this environment and this environment harbors predators.”

That arrest warrant also states that Silva asked the victim not to report their relationship because it would affect her career and family.

She was arrested and booked Thursday on several charges including, carnal knowledge of a juvenile, indecent behavior with juveniles and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.

The schools’ superintendent released a statement saying “We informed law enforcement when it was brought to our attention on Friday, January 24, 2020. Immediately, the teacher was placed on administrative leave. No one was covering up anything, nor sweeping anything under the rug.”

Detectives are requesting that parents of students who may have had contact with Silva talk to their children about their interactions and to report any of their concerns to authorities.
