BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – After the final weekend in August, thousands of new coronavirus cases have been reported in the state, according to the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH).
LDH states that since Friday, August 26, a total of 3,863 new COVID cases were tallied and of the newly reported cases, 907 are reinfections.
Tragically, officials add that the state also lost 11 individuals to COVID-related deaths since Friday.
Most of the infection cases appear to be among people between the ages of 5-17, with the majority of such cases occurring in the Capital area.
LDH continues to warn locals that the state is in the midst of its sixth COVID-19 surge and it is highly recommended people ages six months and older be vaccinated against the virus.
