New court date set for local pastor pending Supreme Court decision


BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Pastor Tony Spell was expected back in court on Tuesday morning. 

The pastor at Life Tabernacle Church never made his way into the 19th Judicial District Courthouse.

Spell said he was not going to wear a mask inside the courthouse and was not allowed to enter because of that decision.

Pastor Spell was scheduled to appear at a hearing in front of Judge Eboni Rose.

The special prosecutor in this case wants to wait and see how the Supreme Court of Louisiana rules on the emergency order.

The emergency order was put in place by Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards.

The next court date for Pastor Tony Spell is scheduled for Jan. 18, 2022.

Ahead of the scheduled court appearance, Pastor Spell asked for his supporters to show up at the courthouse. 

Spell’s supporters have shown up before at the19th Judicial District Courthouse.
