Every Tuesday the Zachary Taylor Veterans of Foreign Wars Post (VFW) on Choctaw in Baton Rouge has steak night, where members sell steak dinners with a potato and salad for $15.
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been an increased amount of orders, but now they are to go. The money raised from the steak night events is crucial because it is the only income coming to the post since the threat of coronavirus has halted all most other activities.
“The only money we get is money that we have when we have friday night dances, and then of course, Tuesday nights when we have our steak nights so that’s probably the only money we get. We’re going to keep doing it until, hope everything breaks open pretty soon. Tommy Pitre, the post commander said. “I know we’re not going to jump into a full swing, maybe having our dances when a lot of people come in, but steak night is going to be important for us right now cause that’s going to be our only means of making money right now.”
The VFW needs at least 20 orders per steak night to earn a profit, the last event passed 20 orders within the first hour. In the past orders have been as few as two. If you would like to come by and order a steak night to, the address of the post is 13214 Choctaw Dr, Baton Rouge LA, 70815.
