BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) — Happening on Thursday, health leaders are gathering virtually to give an update on Ochsner’s response to the Coronavirus.
During the meeting, Ochsner is expected to talk about hospital capacity, testing, and vaccinations.
They will also discuss the likelihood of making booster shots available for everyone.
The Louisiana Department of Health greenlit booster shots for those with significantly compromised immune systems after a recommendation from the CDC.
Booster shots will eventually be extended to all vaccinated people who have received their second dose of either Pfizer or Moderna.
Ochsner’s Regional Medical Director, Aldo Russo, says, “Our team is prepared to give the booster when approved. Initial reports indicate it will begin in late September for anyone who has been fully vaccinated for at least eight months.” Russo adds, “vaccination is safe and remains the best way to slow the spread of COVID-19.”
We will have a live stream of that media briefing at 9:15 AM. Look for this story on our homepage.
