NEW ORLEANS, La. (WDSU) — A four-year-old Kipp Morial student says he’s scared to catch the bus again after his driver dropped him off at the wrong stop Monday.
The student spent more than an hour lost in the Oak Island area of Michoud in New Orleans East.
Curtis Elmore, III, director of communications for Kipp New Orleans School, released a statement confirming the incident.
“On Monday, August 5, 2019, our transportation vendor dropped off one of our students at the wrong location. Upon hearing of this unfortunate incident, KIPP New Orleans Schools (KNOS) staff immediately took action to resolve the matter. The action taken by the bus driver does not align with our values or our safety procedures; the bus driver was immediately terminated.
The safety of all KNOS students is a top priority for us and we certainly apologize to the student and family involved. We are working closely with our vendor to ensure that the safety of all students remains the top priority.”
We also reached out to the bus company. They sent us a statement saying:
“The safety of our students is our number one priority. For confidentiality of the student (who is a minor), we will not reveal where the student attends class; however we can confirm that the student was dropped off at the wrong stop which was two blocks from his assigned bus stop. The driver who dropped off the student is no longer part of our team. We have a zero-tolerance policy for drivers who do not follow proper protocols and procedures.”
