JACKSON, La. (BRPROUD) – World War II veteran, Johnnie Jones, Sr. has died at the age of 102.

Brandee Patrick, with the Louisiana Department of Veteran Affairs, had this say about the passing of the West Feliciana Parish native:

“Veteran Johnnie Jones passed away, early Saturday morning. He was a resident at our Louisiana War Veterans Home in Jackson, La.”

He was a decorated war veteran and renowned civil rights attorney. Last June, Secretary Strickland and General Honore honored him with a long-overdue Purple Heart.”

“Louisiana, and the entire country, should both mourn the loss and celebrate the life of an American hero and dedicated civil rights leader, Johnnie Jones, who recently died at age 102. But in his 102 years, fought for our country, fought for the free world, and also fought to bring civil rights to a better place,” said Senator Bill Cassidy.
