Louisiana law enforcement agencies participated in the fourth annual Shop with a Cop event Saturday at the Jennings and DeRidder Walmart locations.

The event, which was the brainchild of Jude Clement and the late Master Trooper Scott O’Connell, is meant to bridge the gap between local law enforcement and the communities which they serve.

Another goal of Shop with a Cop is to help less fortunate families during the holidays, and the children selected for the program were from parishes in the state’s southwest region.

Louisiana State Police partnered with Louisiana DPS Police, Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office, Town of Welsh Police Department and Iowa Police Department to pull off the event.

The event was made possible in part by donations from LSTA Troop D, Clement Septic Service, Miguez Funeral Home, Petos Travel Center, Guillote Brothers Inc., Marceaux Eletric Inc., Matt L Guin Construction and other anonymous sponsors, according to LSP’s Facebook page.
