A Winnsboro man has been arrested for setting a fire inside his family home while his bedridden mother and disabled grandfather were inside, according to the Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal.

32-year-old Jonathan Armstrong was booked into the Franklin Parish Detention Center Saturday on two counts of attempted first degree murder and one count each of aggravated arson and remaining after forbidden.

It happened Saturday in the 300 block of Carter Street.

First responders reported seeing smoke coming from the home as they arrived.

The fire was located in a bedroom and extinguished without any injuries, deputies say.

State Fire Marshal Deputies were called to investigate the origin and cause of the fire and determined it was intentionally set.

Through an investigation, deputies learned that Armstrong had been arguing with his mother and grandfather through the night which led to him being asked to leave the home, and when he refused, 911 was called.

In an interview with deputies, Armstrong provided contradictory information to the evidence discovered at the scene and was placed under arrest.
