Louisiana man charged with multiple counts of wire fraud


NEW ORLEANS, (BRPROUD)- U.S Department of Justice District Court Judge for Eastern District of Louisiana Attorney Duane A. Evans announces that Clarence ‘Billy’ Burkette, 53 is indicted by federal grand jury for defrauding the Town of Pearl River in connection with the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Public Assistance Program.

If convicted Burkette faces a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison, five years of supervised release—he is also ordered to pay a fine up to of $1,000,000.

According to court documents, Burkette, was contracted to provide the Town of Pearl River disaster assistance services, in which he invoiced the Town of Pearl River $629,761.25 for services he claimed to have provided related to the Disaster Assistance Agreement. Records show that Burkette received $598,196.25 from the Town of Pearl River in a fraudulent claim.
