CUT OFF, La. (BRPROUD) – An arrest has been made in connection with a deadly crash that ended in Bayou Lafourche last month.

Jaquan-Maleek Hebert, 20, of Golden Meadow, was taken into custody on Friday, August 5.

Hebert was one of two people in a 2003 GMC Sierra along with Michael Guill, 34, of Cut Off, when the crash took place.

Guill died on Monday, July 11, after the truck filled up with water.

Louisiana State Police initiated an investigation into this deadly crash and “found significant evidence placing Hebert as the driver at the time of the crash.”

On the morning of the deadly crash, Hebert was given a breathalyzer test.

The result of that test “showed a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit,” according to the Louisiana State Police.

The 20-year-old admitted to being the driver of the GMC Sierra at the time of the crash.

Hebert was subsequently taken to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center and booked on the charges listed below:

  • Vehicular Homicide – Driving Under the Influence (Felony)
  • Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated (Misd)
  • Speeding (31 or more over)
  • Hit-and-Run Driving with Serious Injury or Death (Felony)
  • Operating Vehicle with Suspended License, No License Issued
  • No Seat Belt (1st Offense)
  • Expired Motor Vehicle Inspection
  • Switched Plates (Misd)
  • Owner to Secure Registration (Misd)
  • Careless Operation
  • Security Required
