WASHINGTON, D.C. (BRPROUD) — U.S. Rep. Troy Carter presented the Joseph R. Biden Lifetime Achievement Award to Louisiana native, Calvin Mills Jr. on Friday, Jan. 13 in Washington, D.C.

Mills is the founder/CEO of HelpIT, Inc. As a committed philanthropist, Mills founded his first company with service at the forefront. He helped low-income families access technology by building affordable computers. Mills also launched a nonprofit to help children get access to technology.

The U.S. President’s Lifetime Achievement Award is the highest level of service award that honors individuals and organizations exhibiting good character, work ethic and dedication to their communities, giving more than 4,000 documented volunteer hours.

On Friday, Carter posted a statement and photos of the two on social media: “Proud to present the 2023 Presidential Awards… The Joseph R. Biden Lifetime Achievement Award to my friend and constituent Calvin Mills! Congratulations… Keep making us proud!”

Mills’ background of growing up in a low-income single-parent home has molded him into who he is today.

“I am deeply humbled and honored to receive such a distinguished recognition from President
Joe Biden,” said Mills. “My mother had a servant’s heart and instilled that in me. I’ve dedicated
my life to helping those in my community, and I will continue in that vein.”

He has also been awarded other prestigious accolades such as the Small Business Administration’s Small Business Champion of the Year Award, the Department of Homeland Security’s Small Business Achievement Award, and other local and national honors.
